Can I Shoot This? Refund & Cancellation Policy

This policy explains our contractual refund rules and the online consumer cancellation process. It does not reduce any statutory rights you have under UK consumer law.

1. The 14-day cooling-off period

If you buy CIST online as a consumer, you will generally have 14 days from the date the contract is made to cancel, subject to the rules that apply when a service or digital content starts during that period.

CIST is intended to be available immediately. Before checkout, we therefore ask you to:

  • expressly request that the CIST service begins during the 14-day cancellation period;
  • acknowledge that if the service is fully performed after that request, the statutory right to cancel the service may be lost;
  • understand that if you cancel a service after performance has started but before it is fully performed, the law may permit a proportionate charge for what has already been supplied; and
  • expressly consent to immediate supply of downloadable/digital outputs and acknowledge that the statutory cancellation right for digital content may be lost when supply of that digital content begins.

Because CIST combines an online service with digital outputs, the precise statutory remedy can depend on what has been supplied at the time you cancel. We will apply the rights the law gives you and will not treat the ordinary Membership minimum commitment as overriding a valid statutory cancellation right.

2. Single Project purchases

A Single Project credit is not consumed when you merely create an empty project. It is consumed when the first screenplay analysis begins.

  • If you validly cancel during the cooling-off period before performance has begun, we will refund the applicable purchase price.
  • If performance has begun at your express request, statutory rules about proportionate payment may apply.
  • If the service has been fully performed after the required request and acknowledgement, or digital content has been supplied after the required consent and acknowledgement, the statutory cancellation right may no longer apply to that supplied element.

Outside statutory cancellation rights, an unused credit is normally non-refundable after 14 days, except where the service is faulty, not supplied as promised, or the law otherwise requires a remedy.

3. Membership

Membership has an initial minimum commitment of 3 successful monthly payments. Each successful monthly payment earns one Tier 1 project credit. Unused credits already earned remain on the account until used, including if Membership later ends. That contractual commitment applies after and subject to any statutory cooling-off rights.

After the cooling-off period, a normal cancellation request made before the minimum commitment is complete is recorded immediately. Monthly billing continues through payment 3, and each successful payment continues to add one project credit. Cancellation is then scheduled for the end of that paid billing period. After the minimum is complete, normal cancellation is scheduled for the end of the current paid billing period.

If a valid statutory cancellation right is exercised, that statutory right takes priority over the normal three-payment process. Do not use the ordinary Membership cancellation button if you are specifically exercising a cooling-off right. Use the statutory cancellation route shown in your account or contact us directly.

4. Failed or materially defective service

If CIST cannot provide a paid service, repeatedly fails due to a fault within our control, or does not meet applicable consumer-law standards, contact us. Depending on the circumstances, the appropriate remedy may include re-performance, a price reduction or refund. A filmmaking plan being difficult, expensive or commercially unattractive is not by itself a service fault.

5. How to cancel during a statutory cooling-off period

You can give us any clear statement that you wish to cancel. If your CIST account shows a statutory cancellation-request form, you may use that. You may also email support@bournemouthfilmfest.co.uk.

We record the time a statutory cancellation request is received and send an acknowledgement. Refunds that are due will be processed using an appropriate payment method and within the period required by law.

7. Payment disputes

Please contact us before initiating a card dispute if possible. This gives us an opportunity to investigate the account, entitlement and payment records. Nothing here prevents you from using rights available through your card provider or law.
