BECTU has officially endorsed the new report from Creative UK calling for a Freelance Commissioner—a role designed to give freelancers a voice, protect working rights, and shape national policy that actually reflects how our sector works.

As a festival committed to championing creative professionals at every level, we fully support this move.

Freelancers are the backbone of film, TV, theatre, live events, and cultural festivals like ours—yet they’re too often left without stability, representation, or long-term security.

It’s time for that to change.
